English 10: Excellent Work!!

Thank you for treating Miss Moyes so respectfully. It's refreshing to know that when I am absent that your learning continues without interruption.

Today: I collected the USSR sheet. We learned three new words: manifesto, relegate and reclusive.

You are being TESTED this week.

WHAT KIND OF LEARNER ARE YOU? Are you ready to write this paragraph on your own? If not, what would you like to do to learn how to write a paragraph.

Bring your plan to class tomorrow.

Due Thursday (if you are ready)

a typed, double-spaced, edited, literary paragraph which demonstrates everything you have learned about answering questions with innovative thesis statements

Question: What does the story, "Want to Play House? by Leon Rooke, reveal about the influence parents have on their children?

You must GO BEYOND THE OBVIOUS. I must learn something about the story based on your paragraph. Tell me something that you figure out.

Don't say in your response: Negative role models create negative citizens.

We probably know that already, don't we?

Instead, say what the story makes you think about? What details in the story really catch your attention? Are they symbolic? Ironic? Funny? Emotional? Do they foreshadow? Does the story interest you? Why or why not? The subject matter is a very serious problem in our society. What does Rooke's story make us do?
